Heather Hanna, Speaker at Neonatology Conferences
Imperial College London, United Kingdom

Abstract:

Multidisciplinary Education is very important in the world of Paediatric and Neonatal Medicine as we endeavour to deliver holistic provision to the children in our care. The underlying pedagogy is designed not only to increase knowledge, but also to equip the Healthcare Professional with transferrable skills, promote teamwork and enhance communication between the disciplines. Reflecting on how learning can develop practice, we consider how further education can enable practitioners to manage unexpected turns in the healthcare professional’s career journey and within the developing roles of the practitioners over time. Additionally, we consider engaging ways of teaching our colleagues in a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) setting, such as a Grand Round or within MDT meetings.

Audience take-away:

  • More about the value of MDT learning in pediatrics and neonatal medicine
  • A brief outline of useful and relevant pedagogy that can be used practically to develop accessible teaching sessions to present ideas and to improve practice for colleagues and peers
  • Ways of developing themselves as an MDT within their own contexts
