Neonatal Cardiology

Neonatal cardiology is the foetal diagnosis and treatment of pregnant women who are at risk of having kids with heart issues or who are known to be carrying new-borns with heart defects. Heart defects connected with various types of disease, such as diaphragmatic hernia, heart muscle disease (cardiomyopathy) or infection (myocarditis), and heart issues owing to lung masses, are all examples of neonatal heart disorders. Neonatal and paediatric cardiologists must work together to provide multidisciplinary care to neonates with serious heart illness. Every year, around 40,000 babies in the United States are born with congenital cardiac disease. Several of these babies will need corrective or palliative surgery while still in the womb. Neonates, especially those born prematurely, have the highest mortality rates following heart surgery. The increased surgical mortality risk in newborns can be attributed to a number of factors. Neonatologists are generally the first to notice indicators of a neonate's undetected cardiac disease. The infant is stabilised, and a cardiac consultation is requested.
